$1.295 Million Steve McQueen’s 1953 Siata Spyder Up for Sale
As of Monday, California’s Fantasy Junction is officially offering Steve McQueen’s 1953 Siata 208S Spyder at $1.295 million.
The 1953 Siata Spyder was originally released as a limited edition – only 35 built. However, the moment Steve McQueen purchased one, the rare nature of the car rose both spiritually and financially.
Owned by the “King of Cool,” the Italian roadster was stored in McQueen’s infamous garage, which held a stable of Ferrari, Porsche, and Jaguar supercars. Formerly a staple within the Cars of Steve McQueen exhibition at The Peterson Auto Museum in Los Angeles, the Spyder is still regarded as one of the finest foreign supercars. In comparison to the size of the vehicle, it is incredible that the Spyder is fueled by the hefty 2.3 Litre 8-cylinder Fiat engine.
Complimenting the internal innovation, McQueen affixed an extremely rare set of Heuer racing instruments (watch/stop-watch) to the dashboard. Although the restoration has been a painstaking process, the “Little Ferrari” (nickname by McQueen) has been the apex of admiration, winning several honors at Concours d’elegance.
